Once Upon a Crossroads (first 1200 words)

This is a 1200-word excerpt from my 6700-word fantasy short story, Once Upon a Crossroads. Set on Faltyr--the same setting as our novel--this is an expansion upon the Cycle of Ages Saga. It is an introductory tale, throwing two female protagonists, Bruttia and Baebiana, together for the first time.
